Grant Smith, MD

Grant SmithI chose UCPC as a residency program because I wanted a smaller family within the larger UCSF internal medicine family. This close community made my residency experience so special because it meant having an extra layer of support from faculty, peers, and clinic staff who were all mutually invested in each other's well being, growth, and development. The close mentorship I experienced within UCPC also helped me navigate difficult decisions about how to spend my time in residency, how to navigate applying for fellowship, and ultimately the job application process. Having a group of peers and faculty who cared and continue to care about me not just as a doctor but as a person, helped me pursue a career that was the right fit for me.

Current Job: Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine, Section of Palliative Medicine, Stanford University School of Medicine

My clinical work includes seeing patients in both the outpatient palliative care clinic and the inpatient palliative care consult service. My non-clinical work includes teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. I also serve as the medical director of a partnership between our clinical Section of Palliative Medicine and the hospital's Department of Patient Experience that aims to increase palliative care awareness, education, and access to services for patients and the broader community.
